Mellersh’s point to his wife is not that she suddenly needed to change bodies and be someone else, she simply needed to begin using the one she had to bring love and affection, respect and care to herself and her marriage, and when that happened it changed the whole landscape of their relationship.

Though we need to take steps to take care of ourself for the good of our partnering, it’s ultimately an inside job to be attractive and to feel open with our whole being. That’s our job: to do what we need to do so we can feel unashamed and free when we’re being intimate with our spouse.

I like to look at it this way: my body is a gift from life itself that I offer to myself and my partner, along with a spirit of kindness and openness that I bring to my husband and my marriage. And I want to give all of it with as much love, thanks, attractiveness, and respect as I can.
